As many of you know the 2013 National Jamboree will take place at the new permanent jamboree site at the Bechtel Summit Reserve in West Virginia. In order to test various components of the new jamboree model onsite, 50 scouting units from councils across the country will be selected to participate next summer in a "long weekend" starting on Friday morning, July 13 and ending on Tuesday morning, July 17, 2012.

The Palmetto Council is interested in applying to send 1 troop of 36 scouts and 4 adult leaders to participate in this exciting sneak preview of the new Jamboree site and be “First on the Summit.” Any scout who meets the jamboree age, rank, and medical requirements can attend the shakedown regardless if they are registered for the 2013 jamboree or plan to attend. This opportunity is open to any qualified scout in the council.

Detailed information is located on the council website on the "Major Activites" page under the "National Scout Jamboree" tab and attached to this announcement. Please share this opportunity with your troops and encourage those interested to respond as quickly as possible. Time is of the essence for this opportunity. The 50 troops will be chosen on a first come-first served basis. The window for troops to apply is December 15th, 2011 –January 15th, 2012. The first 50 troops to apply with the required deposit beginning December 15th will be chosen. Let’s be part of this fantastic opportunity and sign up 36 scouts and ensure the Palmetto Council is one of the troops to be “First on the Summit.”

Thanks, let’s make this happen.
