| There is a 9-acre cemetery in Clifton (near Broome HS)that was forgotten and has become overgrown during the past 15-20 years. There is now an effort to restore this piece of history. People laid there include the first settlers of Clifton, who came with Elijah Clark in the 1740's. It was later used for Civil War soldiers and for families of Clifton Mill workers. The Clifton Cemetery Association needs Scouts and volunteers to help cut back trees and underbrush in an effort to locate and mark the graves. Please contact Ms. Pat Oxley at 579-0563 to lend a hand. They usually have folks working there on Saturday mornings, but may add weekdays over the summer. |
