Hello all. We have some good progress on the Outdoor Ethics Committee for Palmetto council! In addition to the inaugural LNT Trainer course we are throwing this weekend at CBH, I have assembled some LNT Education Kits with materials that Units can use to do awareness sessions on this important topic. -------------------------- Hello Palmetto Council Scouters/Leaders. I am happy to announce the availability of a new Kit that we have put together to assist leaders in training their Scouts in Leave No Trace principles. This LNT Education kit has everything needed to conduct effective training sessions with your Den, Pack, or Troop. Each kit includes the Activity Guide to Teaching Leave No Trace, 101 Ways to Teach Leave No Trace, North America Skills and Ethics booklet, Pocket Guide to Leave No Trace, Front Country Guide, and a Library of 7 reference cards. <image009.jpg><http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WvorxBUQX0A/SShcuD0HYVI/AAAAAAAAAF4/udTE_MwWlxE/s1600-h/Ed+Toolkit.jpg> <image002.jpg> Also included is the PEAK kit with activities focused on teaching Leave No Trace to children, as well as two additional training modules for teens. <image004.jpg> The PEAK Pack includes six fun activities designed to teach kids about Leave No Trace. The program features colorful illustrated characters representing various pieces of outdoor gear that can help us Leave No Trace: • Trek and Track- boots • Zooms- binoculars • Digger- trowel • Flash- camera • Pointer- compass • Sparks- camp stove • Pitch- tent PEAK is ideal for the elementary school age group. Each activity or "module" can be delivered in 30–60 minutes depending on group size, available time, etc. The modules come in durable plastic folders and all six conveniently fit into an expanding folder (the Pack) that can be used in the field or in a classroom setting. Each module contains instructions on how to facilitate the activity as well as supporting materials. Also included in the PEAK Pack is a Start Card and an instructional DVD, which offer many helpful teaching tips and an overview of the Leave No Trace program. There are two LNT posters for display and 50 hang tags for distribution. ( These will need to be replaced at a cost of .25/hang tag given out). <image006.jpg> <image008.jpg> <image015.jpg> Last but not least, the US Parks Service Leave No Trace video on DVD rounds out the Education Kit! I have assembled 5 of these so that each Palmetto Council district will have its own LNT Education Kit. These can be checked out by contacting the council Outdoor Ethics Advocate Stephen Wilson (<mailto:frostbyte@frostbyte.net>frostbyte@frostbyte.net<mailto:frostbyte@frostbyte.net> or calling 704-614-0640). Thanks, -Stephen Wilson |
