Scouting Safely (http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety.aspx) on www.scouting.org has a Scouting Safely Alerts section with an informative piece on Insurance Coverages in the Insurance Programs Alert, which is available to volunteers and chartered organizations.

The Insurance Coverage Alert was recently updated with information indicating that there is no insurance policy in place that would provide indemnification or defense coverage for those situations involving allegations of intentional and/or criminal acts. Please see Section 19 of the Risk Management Notebook entitled Insurance Program Renewals and Recommendations for March 1, 2010-February 28, 2011, which contains this update, as well.

In addition to the above, a paragraph has been added which advises that a volunteer (registered or not), unit, chartered organization, or local council could jeopardize their insurance coverage under the general liability policy if they are engaging in unauthorized activities as outlined in the Guide to Safe Scouting. Unauthorized activities are not considered Official Scouting Activities.
