There are two basic types of Forums on the website: Announcement Forums and Discussion Forums.

Announcement Forums provide for one-way communications from the council to its members and the public. Only specific council staff and authorized volunteers will be able to post new topics to these forums. People viewing the forum will not be able to create replies to the topics. The forum containing this topic is an example of an Announcement Forum.

Discussion Forums provide for two-way communications between the forum users. Any Authorized User of the forum can create a new topic or reply to an existing topic. Discussion Forums provide a means for questions to be asked and answered, and opinions to be exchanged.

In addition to having two types of forums, we also have two basic security levels for the forums: Public and Restricted. A Public Forum allows any visitor to the website to view its content. Restricted forums limit their access based on a committee, interest group, position type, etc.

Together, Announcement/Discussion and Public/Restricted give us the following:

Public Announcement Forums: Can be viewed by any visitor to the website. Only specific staff or volunteers can create new topics. Replies to topics are not allowed.

Restricted Announcement Forums: Viewing the forum is limited to a specific group. Only specific staff or volunteers can create new topics. Replies to topics are not allowed.

Public Discussion Forums: Can be viewed by any visitor to the site. Any Registered User of the site can login and create new topics of reply to topics. In no case, will annonymous visitors to the site be allowed to create topics or replies.

Restricted Discussion Forums: Viewing as well as topic and reply creation is restricted to a specific group. Site visitors must login to establish their credentials to access these forums.
